Who We Are
Sod Busters Turf, Inc., is a family-owned business started by father, Cecil E.
Johnson, and son, Matthew E. Johnson, both of Aynor, South Carolina. Cecil
was a tobacco farmer for years and also the founder of a crop insurance
business. He has a great vision for the future of farming. Matthew graduated
cum laude from Clemson University with a degree in Agronomy with an
emphasis in soils and turf production.
With the pending tobacco buy-out, Cecil, Matthew, and other family members
began to plan for the future of their Horry County farm investments. Since
1999, the family has sustained a successful sod farming business that is
growing each year. Rebecca, Cecil's daughter & Matthew's sister, also became
co-owner in the business in 2006. Sod Busters Turf is continually adding sod
acreage and diversifying the types of turf it offers to supply the demand of
area landscapers and homeowners. In addition to sod, we also offer other
landscaping materials for our customers: pine needles and landscaping mulch.
At the heart of our business is the relationship between Sod Busters Turf and
our customers. We pride ourselves on three main things: 1) our relationship
with our valued landscapers and homeowners in South and North Carolina, 2)
our top-notch work team of drivers and farm workers, and 3) the quality of our
sod, straw and mulch products.
